Does Aether work with my corporate Exchange server? +
Yes. Aether connects via IMAP and SMTP, which Exchange supports natively. You'll need your server address, port, and credentials — the same settings you'd use in Outlook or Thunderbird. Self-hosted Postfix, Dovecot, Zimbra, and similar setups are all supported.
How does BYOK work — is my API key safe? +
Your API key is stored locally in your browser or app — it never passes through Aether's servers. AI calls go directly from your device to the provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, DeepSeek). We never see your key, and we never proxy your requests.
Can I switch AI providers mid-conversation? +
Yes — the AI settings panel lets you switch providers and models with one click. You can use GPT-4o for drafting, Claude for summarization, and Gemini for search — or just pick one and stick with it.
What's the difference between Aether and Superhuman? +
Superhuman only works with Gmail and Outlook, costs $30/month, and manages AI on their end. Aether works with any email server, starts free, and lets you bring your own AI key with zero markup. Superhuman has deeper keyboard shortcuts and more mature automation — but Aether is built for the users Superhuman doesn't serve.
Is there a self-hosted or open-source version? +
The Pro plan includes on-premise deployment instructions. An open-core version is on the roadmap — the backend (Node.js IMAP/SMTP layer) will be open-sourced. Enterprise customers can license the full source code.
